Mahogany Glider Fine Art Print
The Mahogany Glider
The mahogany glider (scientific name Petaurus gracilis) holds cultural significance to Aboriginal peoples, specifically the Traditional Owners of the Girramay tribe, who call the glider "Mungarru". Petaurus gracilis means “slender rope dancer”
Native to northern Queensland - Nocturnal, it sleeps in eucalyptus and bloodwood trees during the day. Larger than other gliders, it has a long tail and mahogany brown belly. Virtually silent, it can glide for 30 metres at a time. Gliders eat pollen and nectar of flowering plants and are the key pollinators of eucalyptus and banksia plants.
Mahogany gliders are critically endangered mostly due to clearing of native habitat.
