In Australia, there are two unique breeding populations of loggerhead turtles: on the Great Barrier Reef, and off Western Australia.
The loggerhead turtle eats shellfish, crabs, sea urchins and jellyfish.
Every 2 or 3 years, a female turtle may travel over 12,000 kilometres back to the beach where she hatched as a baby. It is on this same beach that she lays her own eggs as an adult.
The loggerhead turtle can carry up to 100 species of small plants and animals on its shell which also serves as an important habitat. The loggerhead turtle is listed as endangered as a result of bycatch (getting caught in fishing nets) and eating plastic bags, straws and other human rubbish.
